The Instituto de Física Rosario Rosario (IFIR) is a unit of the Argentina National Council of Scientific Research and Technology (CONICET), devoted to the research and development on different branches of physics. It promotes the scientific and technological activities in basic sciences as well as in applied sciences. It cooperates in training human resources, mainly with Faculties of the Rosario National University (UNR).

Research Areas

The Institute was created in 1980 through an agreement between UNR and CONICET. Initially, it was composed by the research groups from the Department of Physics, Faculty of Exact Sciences, Engineering (FCEIyA/UNR). The variety of subjects investigated by the mentioned groups, gives to the Institute the opportunity to start with a solid bases and to grow steadily up the present situation, with more than one hundred persons working at IFIR.

In the Institute, advanced laboratories and outstanding research groups works in its own projects and in collaboration with national and international related institutions. The research lines are essenciall: Atomic Collisions, Solar Energy, Plasma Physics, Geophysics, Condensed Mater, Ceramic Materials, Metallurgical Physics, Optical Metrology, Biological Applied Optics, Intelligent Systems, Quantum Relativity and Gravitation Theories, Condensed Matter Theory and Field Theories.

A wide variety of themes are investigated such as: material science (ceramic, metallurgy, material and mechanical properties), geophysics, solar energy and physics applied to biology are developed.

Ciasem 2009

In October 2009, the 10th Inter-American Congress on Electron Microscopy (CIASEM 2009) and the 1st Congress of the Argentine Society of Microscopy (SAMIC 2009) will be held jointly in Argentina, in the city of Rosario.
The CIASEM Congresses are held every two years, and are the largest and most important meetings on electron microscopy and microscopies throughout the Americas. They have previously been held in Brazil, Ecuador, Mexico (twice), Venezuela (twice), United States of America, Cuba and Peru.
These congresses are sponsored by CIASEM, the Inter-American Committee of Societies for Electron Microscopy, a regional organization of IFSM, the International Federation of Societies for Microscopy, for the Western Hemisphere.
